We are a week into my husband's winter break and are having a blast. I've had a rough few weeks including a death in the family, a ridiculous cold, and little sleep. I am thoroughly enjoying the time we are spending together having fun and recharging before another crazy semester begins.
My husband's family lives way, way upstate in New York. There isn't much to do in his little hometown but we are close to Canada, Vermont, and Lake Placid. I had only seen Lake Placid briefly when my husband and I passed through during a pre children road trip a few Christmases ago. I was very excited to visit.
We bundled the kids up in their North Face jackets and set off for an afternoon surrounded by mountains, ski lodges, and a gorgeous lake sprinkled with a tiny dusting of snow. The kids had fun playing in a toy store, eating pizza for lunch, and checking out the Christmas lights. My husband suggested we meet up with some friends of his for dinner while we were in town.
We ate dinner at the Mirror Lake Inn's Taste Restaurant and Bistro. It was beyond incredible. The Inn was breathtaking, the kids could not get enough of the Christmas decorations. I fell in love with an eggnog martini and my pot roast with carmelized root vegetables. My husband is scheming to return for another broiled Great Hill Blue Cheese topped rib eye sandwich. It was an experience to remember and the perfect way to end a fantastic day.
