BlogHer Book Club: Slow Love

Slow LoveIt has been a long time since I have read some fun and light-hearted fiction. I was very excited to read Dominique Browning’s new novel, Slow Love for the Blogher Book ClubIn 2007 Browning was a happily fulfilled career woman working as editor-in-chief of House & Garden magazine. Unfortunately her dedication to the magazine did not prevent its demise. The magazine folded and Dominique was sent into a tailspin. She became a lonely, unemployed, empty-nester with far too much time on her hands overnight. The lack of daily structure left Dominique more time than she had ever desired to obsess over her off and on again ambivalent lover. In an attempt to break her previous off and on again relationship cycle with the man she calls Stroller, Dominique devotes time to pursuits that had never been available when her time was occupied with meetings and deadlines.

Dominique even considers blogging. I can relate to that. Dominique had invested so much time in her career and placed so much value on her contributions to the magazine that she needed to step back and find her true self again. Her journey was both relatable and amusing.

Slow Love was an entertaining end of the summer read. Grab a copy or read the excerpt and then be sure to stop by Blogher for some interesting discussion.
